Mound Town, works by Joey Garfield
May 6-20, 2017
Joey Garfield is a filmmaker, photographer and multi-disciplinary artist. His work focuses on rhythm, flow, simplicity, attitude and humor. He honors and documents the counter cultures of his youth, which saved his life creatively and soulfully. Repurposed wood, spray paint, earth, found objects and album vinyl are some of the tools of his trade.
His current show at 1100 Florence Gallery, Mound Town, includes 2D/3D works of photography, sculpture and mixed media. The project consists of a series of photographs of Mounds. These photographs profile different mounds, which are found in their natural outdoor environment. All mounds in the series are rare and unique characters captured in a fleeting moment of their existence because no mound is permanent. They are all made naturally from dirt, snow, wood chips, and the pile ups of stuff that we see in the corners of our world everyday.
