The 60X60 Show
Late in 2018 I had the terrifying realization that in a little over 60 weeks I would turn 60 years old. As a challenge to myself, I decided to create 60 small works. Because I am almost exclusively a landscape artist I began to think about my life in terms of my artistic endeavors. I realized my love of art while living in Japan as a child. It was at the same time my mother, in her 30s started her life as a landscape artist.
I decided to create 60 works, one for each year and split them into 4 groups of 15. One group for each season: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. I thought this fitting as it is a complete cycle of a year here on earth. I took my inspiration from Hokusai (known as the Great Wave painter) and his daughter Eisen, who was a painter in her own right. Other influences come from Redon, Monet, and van Gogh. -Jaimie Brunet
