Artist Bio
Amy Gertler grew up in Kansas, moved to Chicago in 1979 and lives in Evanston. She is a Divorce Mediator and has practiced law as a matrimonial attorney in the Chicago area for more than 30 years. She founded Mediate North Shore in 2016 and is a Senior Mediator at ADR Systems in Chicago.
Other than 4 years of instruction in sculpture, Gertler has no formal training as an artist. Her art is inspired and informed by her work with parents and their children in the process of separation and divorce. Her work explores the institutions around love and divorce. Themes include "love, attachment, and detachment" , "coming undone" and "marriage and divorce as a commercial transaction".
