“It's like you've found a fun way for strangers to connect in an intimate way without getting drunk and taking their clothes off… and I laughed, a lot!!” – WILTBY participant
You’re invited… to join Ben Hollis (Emmy-Winning Host of Wild Chicago) at 1100 Florence Gallery in Evanston as he leads, via the Art of Conversation, a humorous exploration into the souls of our city.
“What’s It Like to be You, Evanston?”
Part talk show, part story fest – and the story is You!
NOTE: No one is interviewed without first giving his or her permission. It’s okay just to watch
Created and performed by eight-time Emmy Award winner and Studs Terkel Media Award recipient Ben Hollis, “What’s It Like to be You?” (WILTBY) draws on the ancient power of one human being speaking to another.
How’s it work?
Immediately prior to the performance Hollis circulates among attendees, finding several volunteers willing to engage in a 5-10 minute unscripted interview. Each interviewee, deftly and respectfully guided by Hollis, humorously reveals “What’s It Like To Be You?”
While every interview is unique, the emotions, strengths, and authentic feelings uncovered by Hollis definitively demonstrate how much we have in common --beyond our apparent differences.
“Big laughs and endless surprise...No one can sit through such a show and not get a feel for the vulnerabilities and strengths of those who participate.”n– The Chicago Tribune
Performance throughout the Fall, Thursdays 7-9p; $10 suggested donation.
More on “What’s It Like to be You?”
Created by Ben Hollis in 1993, “WILTBY” has been performed for colleges, corporations, and in theaters around the country. He was inspired to create “What’s It Like To Be You?” after seeing a Goodman Theater performance of “Interviewing the Audience” by legendary storyteller/writer Spalding Gray. In the ensuing years Hollis has honed his light-hearted, quirky interviewing style on popular TV shows “Wild Chicago,” “Ben Loves Chicago,” “Ben Around Town,” and “190 North.”
